AP Composition Pre-course Reading Assignment and Points for Consideration
Each student taking AP composition must read The Elements of Style, by Strunk and White. You should prepare to be tested on the contents of this book the first week that you have the course.
Each student taking AP Composition must read two of the following novels. Before the class begins, write the titles of the two novels you read on an index card, and be prepared to hand that card in the first day of class. During the first week of class, you will write an essay on one of the two novels.
- The House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne
- Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
- Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Your teacher will circle one of the two novels and hand the card back to you the day the essay is to be written; you will not know in advance the novel about which you will have to write.
