** Students who do not meet the standard of reading and writing scores at level 3 by the end of the first semester will be required to drop an elective course second semester and take a remedial English course (Course # 122A in this Program of Studies). Students who do not meet the standard of reading and writing scores at level 3 by the end of ninth grade will be required to take Intervention English or Transitional English at the high school in tenth grade.
Before registering, each student will have an individual or group conference with his/her English teacher at which time the program of study and course options will be discussed. Parent/teacher conferences are encouraged, and parents are urged to assist their children with their selections. Please contact your counselor if you need help.
Four primary English courses (9-12) are required for graduation. All primary English courses stress reading, writing, speaking, listening and thinking skills. In addition to the primary English courses, each student is also encouraged to take secondary English electives, which focus on particular English skills.
* All 10th through 12th grade primary English courses contain an assessment project that can be used toward the graduation project portfolio.
