The philosophy of the Secondary Language Arts program at Souderton Area School District is based on the Pennsylvania Literacy Framework. The framework outlines five critical experiences: Reading--Transacting with Text, Writing--Composing Text, Investigating Language, Learning to Learn, and Extending Reading and Writing. Further, it advocates an integrated language approach in which critical experiences are linked together in lessons so that the process of acquiring skill in language arts accommodates the brain's natural responses to these kinds of tasks. A rich literature base provides the context for practice and growth in language arts as well as the appreciation of aesthetics and the diversity of human experience.
Mission Statement
In alignment with the Souderton Area School District Strategic Plan, the Secondary Language Arts Program will provide learning experiences that will enable each student to become an effective communicator. The curricular design includes a core of literature content and a standard of skill along with a set of interventions that help to tailor instruction to the needs of individual students. The language arts staff is committed to facilitating excellence in the language arts while engendering the love of literature in all students.
