SAHS Academics > Grading > Grading progress
It is each teacher's responsibility to monitor the academic progress of his/her students. Teachers are expected to contact the parents of students who fail major assessments. Should a student be in danger of failing a class, the teacher should use these interventions:
- Communicate the nature of the potential failure (incomplete homework, incomplete projects, low test scores, difficulty with comprehension, etc.) to the student’s parent/guardian. The teacher must facilitate reciprocal contact with the parent in the form(s) of a: phone call, parent conference, and/or mailed progress report. All contacts must be recorded on the Monthly Parent Contact Log and submitted to the appropriate subject-area supervisor.
- Further Interventions can be made in any of the following ways:
- Extra help before and/or after school
- Written communications to parent/guardian
- Additional assignments
- Referral to the student’s guidance counselor
It is especially important to communicate and report potential student failure when dealing with seniors and credits toward graduation.
