Critical Information for Parents
What these requirements mean to your child…
- The graduation portfolio with culminating project is an organized display of high quality work.
- The portfolio and project can be presented to college admissions officers and prospective employers.
- The school district will withhold the diploma from any student who does not successfully complete the portfolio with project.
What to expect…
- Look for portfolio eligible projects within courses.
- Look for a report of the portfolio status at least twice a year through both sophomore and junior years.
- Look for a scheduled time and date for the project presentation (fall of senior year).
- Teachers, advisors, and the Graduation Project Coordinator will be helping students toward completion of their portfolio and project. The staff is also available to answer your questions and concerns
Who to contact…
- For questions regarding projects within courses, contact the subject teacher.
- For specific questions regarding the portfolio, contact the Graduation Project Coordinator.
- For questions regarding portfolio and culminating project assessment or overall graduation requirements in terms of the graduation project, contact the Graduation Project Coordinator.
- For other questions regarding special circumstances or high school policies, contact the high school principal.
Intervention Options…
- Students may revise course projects that same year to meet the portfolio eligibility standards.
- The Graduation Project Coordinator may meet with students to give specific guidelines for improvement of projects toward the standards.
- Summer tutors may assist students with portfolio projects.
- Students will have one opportunity to revise the presentation of their culminating project.
Notification…
- Notification of progress toward completing the portfolio will be made on the report card.
- Notification of acceptance into the final phase of the graduation project will be made by the Graduation Project Coordinator by June of the junior year.
- Notification of failure to successfully complete a culminating project will be made at the end of the first semester of the senior year by letter.
- Notification of withholding of the high school diploma will be made at the beginning of the fourth quarter of the senior year by letter.
