Portfolio
The portfolio is a collection of projects that students have completed in their course work beginning in grade 10. Only projects designated as eligible by each discipline may be placed in the portfolio. Courses that require at least one project that meets graduation portfolio criteria will be designated in the Souderton Area High School Program of Studies. Students may rely upon course instructors to advise them regarding the eligibility of projects within each course. Additionally, using a scale of 1-5 with 5 designated as distinguished work, only projects scoring 3 and above may be included in the portfolio. The course instructors will score the portfolio projects. A student may revise a low-scoring project that same year for placement in the portfolio.
Each student will develop a portfolio that will include six pieces: one from each of the four core subjects (English, social studies, math, and science), and two pieces of the student’s choice. The student will select either one of these projects or a different one that has been approved by the Graduation Project Coordinator as the culminating project.
Staff advisors will store portfolios. An advisory session, when students can place completed course projects in their portfolios, will occur four times during the school year. In the spring of the junior year, students will submit their letter of intent which contains a portfolio reflection and proposal for their culminating project to the advisor who will forward the letter of intent and portfolio to the Graduation Project Coordinator. Upon successful completion of the portfolio and letter of intent, students will begin the final phase of graduation project development under the direction of the Graduation Project Coordinator.
