Students > Academics > Program of Studies (Course Offerings) > Special Education
Special Education is designed for and made available to exceptional students whose educational needs are unable to be met in the regular program. Placement for Special Education occurs only after an evaluation by a multidisciplinary team (MDT) and the development of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), which is reviewed and updated as needed, but at least annually. Students are placed in the least restrictive environment, and movement is encouraged to settings of less restriction as progress dictates. Five programs of Special Education are available at Indian Crest Junior High School and Souderton Area High School: the Autistic Support Program, the Learning Support Program, the Skills for Living Program, the Multiple Disabilities Support Program (SAHS only), and the Gifted Support Program.
The Learning Support Program consists of two divisions: one entitled Learning Support, the other, Skills for Living. The Skills for Living program focuses on academic fundamentals, job readiness behaviors, pre-vocational skills, and skills necessary for adult life.
