Food Service - CASHLESS LUNCH

Thanks to flexibilities provided by the USDA’s National School Lunch Program, students will have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and lunch at no cost throughout the academic year. All enrolled students of Souderton Area School District are eligible to receive a nutritional breakfast and lunch each school day at no charge to your household. No further action is required of you. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without paying a fee or submitting an application. This is a unique opportunity for everyone to eat together and will hopefully make it easier for students and families to confidently check breakfast and lunch off their list. A variety of healthy a la carte items are available daily. Menus are published monthly and sent home with the students. Menus are also available on the District Web site's Food Services > Menus Web page.

The Food Service Department provides students with nutritionally balanced, well-prepared. As part of the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program, each meal is planned to meet about one-third of a child’s daily nutritional needs for health, growth and development. The District Food Service Program’s goal is to inspire healthy eating habits and spark a culinary curiosity to last a lifetime.

The school breakfast and lunch programs in the elementary schools consists of different entrée choices, different fruits and vegetables, grains and breads, and a variety of milk. Students may choose one entrée, two items in the fruit and vegetable group, a grain or bread, and milk. The middle and high schools offer additional daily selections of healthy food items.

A computerized debit system is used for meal payments. Money may be deposited into a student account for any amount. This Point of Sale (POS) system eliminates the necessity of cash ona daily basis and allows the lines to move faster. All students must have their meal cards with them when coming through the various meal lines. Deposit slips are available in each school’s main office or cafeteria and must accompany each check or money sent. The students are encouraged to give the money and deposit slips to the food service manager before the start of school. www.mySchoolBucks.com is a new website to prepay for your child’s school breakfast, lunch, and a la carte food items using your debit or credit card. You will be able to check balances and fund the account from your own computer, phone, or fax 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. When a low balance is reached, money is automatically deposited. There is $2.75 fee per each transaction. An e-mail will alert you of the low balance in the account.

A 2021-2022 Pennsylvania Household Application for Free and Reduced -Price School Meals may still be submitted. By submitting an application, you ensure that there will be no lapse in meal benefits for your child(ren) if and when changes to USDA’s National School Lunch Program occur.

Applications are offered in each building office and the Food Service office as well as on the District's Food Services Web site. An online application may also be made at www.compass.state.pa.us.
